Founded in 2013, Blue Evolution is a purpose-driven global ClimateTech company based in California. With over a century of combined experience in seaweed and mariculture, our team innovates and markets nature-based products that address critical challenges in climate change, health, and sustainability. Jane Lalonde
Jane Lalonde is a seasoned branding expert with a deep passion for sustainability and the ocean. Over her 25-year career, she has led impactful marketing initiatives for top global brands such as Virgin, Time Warner, Coca-Cola Interactive, and Disney, as well as numerous Silicon Valley and global start-ups.
Nate Schlachter
Nate is our VP of Operations. He directs our day-to-day operations and logistics engaging with our farms, manufacturers, and new business opportunities. Nate has spent his entire career in the natural food industry and cares deeply about the intersection of food and sustainability.
Czarina Resurreccion
Czarina is our QA Manager. She oversees QA-related activities for all Blue Evolution products: from Mexico to Alaska and everywhere in between! Aside from being certified in SQF and PCQI (food safety qualifications), she also helps with project management, operations, and R&D. She is passionate about being part of BE’s modern revolution of sustainable aquaculture.
John H. McGarvey
John is an experienced lawyer and investment banker. His history includes consulting, finance, negotiations, merger and acquisition transactions, business development and capital placements over a broad spectrum of industries. Mr. McGarvey has served on numerous boards, both private and public. John is currently a member of the Board of Directors of IceMule Coolers, a St. Augustine, FL, consumer products company.
Fi Cheng
Fi is a seasoned finance manager/CFO/controller responsible for overall corporate administration. She has consulted to corporations and foundations on strategy, market access in the US and China, and advised on stakeholder engagement. Fi holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a B.A. in Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University.
Bill Moulton
Bill is an AI pioneer and innovator who leads teams delivering solutions in data mining, geospatial mapping, complex simulation, meshed IoT, VR, bio-process control, aquaculture, life support systems, and industrial robotics in military, financial, industrial, and consumer electronics sectors – Goldman Sachs & Co, Merrill Lynch, R.W. Pressprich, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Alcoa, Reliance Electric, General Motors, Oceanic Institute, JPL, LANL, NASA, IITRI, and EPRI.
Emmanuel Guevara-Luders
Emmanuel is our Director of Operations, Sales & Business Development at our onshore farm in Mexico. He’s responsible for managing the sea vegetable production at every level, bringing over a decade of experience in Mariculture Technologies, cultivation of low environmental impact species, industrial production, quality assurance systems, and sales. His commitment to sustainable seaweed solutions is matched only by his passion as a professional Dive Master.
Laura Rangel
Laura is an engineer in Marine Biotechnology, developing sustainable seaweed aquaculture practices in Mexico. She has expertise in seaweed cultivation on land and in the sea, and the science behind seaweed reproduction, ecophysiology, chemistry, and cryobiology. She has a Master’s degree in Aquaculture, with a focus on Kelp forest from the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education in Ensenada, Baja California.
Leonel Ochoa PhD
Dr. Ochoa joins our team as Operations Manager in Mexico. He trusts in the nutritional value sea vegetables bring towards furthering human health benefits. He has a background in Marine Biotechnology, Aquaculture, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance. His knowledge in Production, Operations, and Functional Nutrition bring innovation for expanding business in Regenerative Sea Vegetable Processing.
Nick Mangini
Nick has been farming kelp in Kodiak since 2016. I was a commercial fisherman for most species in the west coast. Wanting a life closer to home my focus turned to kelp farming and building of Alaska mariculture industry. Kelp farming started as a hobby and now its my life. To share the opportunities that farming can provide to your community, economy, and environment.
Isaac Sosa
Isaac is our Farm Manager in Eréndira, Baja California, where he oversees the day-to-day farm operations. With a background in Aquaculture Biotechnology, he specializes in working with recirculation systems and the cultivation of various aquatic species. Isaac also contributed as a Research Scientist in a pilot project focused on sea vegetable production at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California.
Zach Pittman PhD
Dr. Pittman is working to valorize seaweed product streams. He has experience in seaweed harvesting, extraction, and purification, and developing carbon-conscious consumer products such as plastics, textiles, and construction materials. Zach received his PhD from Clemson University in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, developing novel methods for accurately characterizing biopolymers.
Rachelle Hacmac
Rachelle is our Marketing Manager and has been on the marketing side of the Blue Evolution team since 2017. She oversees all things social media and public relations and assists with sales. Her background in the Portland, Oregon restaurant industry led her to put together Winter Waters, a regenerative seafare series that features Blue Evolution sea vegetables in collaboration with chefs in Portland and the Oregon Coast.

Leading Impact investment initiatives in Asia for 20+ years. Currently focused on developing clean energy initiatives in Vietnam and Laos, while helping develop the region’s regenerative agriculture sector. Heads PRIM Vietnam investment and partnership strategy to develop renewable energy, energy efficient/carbon negative economic zones, regenerative forestry, and large scale renewable power projects in Vietnam and Laos.
Jeff Cohen
CEO of Climate Advisors, co-founder of XpansivCBL, former climate specialist at EPA, Nobel honoree as member of Paris Accord negotiating team. Business leader with deep expertise and track record in energy, commodity, and carbon markets, national and international environmental policy. Leveraging market forces to propel transition to low-carbon economy is his passion.
Charles Yarish PhD
Professor Emeritus at University of Connecticut, pioneer and thought leader in development of US seaweed farming industry. He has been an visiting marine scientist at Stony Brook Univ., The Biologische Anstalt Helgoland (Germany), The Univ. of Groningen (Netherlands) & Shanghai Ocean University (China).
Dr. Jose Zertuche
Jose Zertuche currently works at the Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas, Autonomous University of Baja California. Jose does research in seaweed ecophysiology and cultivation. His present projects deal with the cultivation of kelps in open waters and pond cultivation of Ulva spp.
Carlos Chambon
Carlos is our Farm Director in Eréndira, Baja California. He oversees our onshore seaweed cultivation, but has spent much of his career offshore: as a student of marine biology and aquaculture, a transatlantic sailor, a deep sea diver for sunken treasure, and as a marine assistant for the movie Titanic.
Dr. Laura Chanes
Laura is a food engineer from Ensenada, Mexico with decades of experience creating culinary delights and working with sea vegetable recipes. Her genius in the kitchen started the journey that resulted in our first product line.
Paul Curtis
Paul developed a unique way of treating both freshwater an marine fish and invertebrates, including coral. Using a non-toxic treatment, MinnFinn, you can eradicate external parasites, bacteria and fungus in all you aquatic animals. Everything from white spot, to columnaris and acro eating flatworms gone in one to three treatments.
Chris Spezzano
Chris is a regenerative technology entrepreneur and consultant building consortia and ethical tech ecosystems. He is the Founder and President of the Empathy Accelerator and the EmpathyX ecosystem. As a master planner and global super connector, he is an advisor/investor for over a dozen regenerative technology companies, from genomics and protein synthesis to immersive gaming and carbon markets.
