Blue Evolution unveils breakthrough in biomining

Miners News reports that Blue Evolution has introduced an innovative method for sustainably extracting critical minerals and rare earth elements using seaweed. Supported by a grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) and in collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Virginia Tech, this initiative leverages seaweed’s natural bioaccumulation capabilities. CEO Beau Perry emphasizes that this approach addresses resource demands while combating climate change and empowering Indigenous communities in Alaska, New Zealand, and other regions. The process also incorporates nature-based blue carbon capture (NBCC), transforming harvested biomass into bio-based products that sequester carbon.
